The Fry’s Hawk

While driving home the last several weeks, I have noticed a hawk hanging out near the local Fry’s store near where I work in Irving Tx.  Obviously, this is a geeky hawk that likes electronics.  I had been meaning to try and get a closer look at him and even loaded up my 40D with my 100-400 lens to get a better shot at him.  But then the rain moved in.  It has rained and been gloomy for it seems like forever now.

But finally, there was a break in the weather here yesterday and seeing that it was coming, packed my camera along for the ride.  The sun was clear and bright, and as I approached Fry’s, I just had this feeling that I would be disappointed yet again and would the hawk would not even be around.  But as I got there, I saw him!  There he was sitting on the ground.  He looked huge.  As I pulled into the parking lot and pulled out my camera, he apparently didn’t like me aiming something that big at him because he almost immediately took off…

As he lifted up, much to my surprise, I discovered that there are actually two of them!  As he flew to the top of the Fry’s sign, they both sat there together.  He still didn’t like having his picture taken much, but I was lucky enough to pull off a few shots before he flow over to the Home Depot sign to irritate the local gull that was sitting there.

So, all in all, it was a good day.  Sun was shining, and I got to see two hawks.  I learned that I really need to keep my eyes opened more to the environment around me.  You never know what you will see, or what you are missing.
