365 – 6 Merlin

I went out early this morning before work got hectic and found this little guy perched in my tree. I am leaning toward a juvenile red-shouldered hawk an adult Merlin based on what I have been told. This is exciting because it is a first for me.

I also spotted a Northern Flicker/Yellow-shafted, several Blue jays, and a Pileated Woodpecker, which kept itself hidden from the camera. But I know he’s here now so I’ll be on the lookout for next time.

365 – 5 One of those days

Duties of my day job called today and has kept me busy all day with no chance for escape. So I grabbed this shot at my desk to show the type of day it was.  Not all of God’s blessings are obvious, but I am thankful for my job which provides well enough for me to pursue my photography hobby.

Here’s hoping for a better tomorrow.

365 – 4 / Chipping Sparrow

The sun finally came out today! To counter that, it was cold and windy, which means that most of the birds were hunkered down somewhere away from me. I was about to end up with a shot of a pine cone but after coming back to the house, I noticed these sparrows around the feeder. I was finally able to get one away from the feeder for a decent shot. According to my Stokes Field Guide, this is a Chipping Sparrow.
