While at the Rheudasil Park listed in the previous post, I witnessed these two ducks apparently going at it with each other. Since I haven’t had a chance to try out the video features of my new camera, I thought I would give it a try. All in all, interesting fight. 🙂

Friday with a New Tripod
Today was a day off for me so I took the opportunity to get a new tripod. Something that I’ve been needing for some time now. I got the Manfrotto 055XPROB legs and a Manfrotto 488RC0 ball head. While the ball head it taking some getting used to, I think I’m going to be happy with this setup for at the very least, a few years. I got these at a local shop here in Dallas called Competitive Camera. I must add that the people there were very helpful in helping me pick out the setup and did not try to talk me into the higher priced model when they had the chance. I’m pretty sure they haven’t seen the last of me down there. 🙂
So, after picking up the new tripod, of course I had to go try it out. Stopped by a couple of “green spots” on the google maps on the way home. One was a spot on the Trinity River not far from where I work called California Crossing Park. There is a spillway there, and apparently people like to fish there.
Once I was done there, I headed on home, but then remembered a park on the way where there were a lot of ducks hanging out. Apparenlty it is named Rheudasil Park according to Google Maps. When I got there, I met a older gentleman and his wife who were visiting family here from New York. He said they have had about 108 inches of snow up there this year, to which I replied that sometimes we may actually average up to 5 inches of snow a year here! We all had a good laugh as we compared cameras and lenses. Nice folks.
So I got to try out the ball head trying to track all the birds and such. It is definitley going to take some getting used to, but I had a few that turned out okay for the first day. Hope you enjoy them as well. Sorry, there’s no shots of Karen this time. She had to work and tomorrow they are predicting a cold spell so we’ll probably stay home and watch movies, so until next time…
Another Saturday; Another Park!
This Saturday, Karen and I visited the Prairie Creek Park in Richardson Texas. (map) This is a nice little park with a foot bridge and a waterfall with a creek running through the middle. It had turned cloudy that day and as with the previous park, since we have not had much rain lately the water level was down. I won’t bother posting pictures of the waterfall or the creek because they didn’t look very nice. There were tree branches and other trash floating in the water because there wasn’t enough current to wash them all away.
This is however a favorite pace for local photographers because the placement of the waterfall makes for a great backdrop for bridal and other portraits.  In fact, there were several “rose pedals” all over the ground so it looks like someone was here just recently taking some of these shots.  We’ll have to come back in the spring when the water is flowing and the creek is cleaner. Until then, here are some shots from this week.
And what weekend photo excursion would be complete without some shots of my beautiful wife. Did I mention that this was Valentines Day? What better way to spend it than with my wife? 🙂
That’s right. I am a blessed man!
Have a good week!
